SUPPORT FOR PARENTS IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA

Parent Consultation

What is Parent Consultation?

Parent consultation is a collaborative space grounded in a neurodiversity-affirming, relational approach that helps you better understand your child’s behavior through a nervous system lens.

Rather than focusing on “fixing” behavior, we explore what your child may be communicating beneath the surface and how patterns develop in response to stress, connection, and environment.

My focus is on helping parents move from reactivity toward greater understanding and confidence in their responses. When behavior is understood in context, it becomes possible to respond in ways that support connection, regulation, and long-term growth.

I believe meaningful change happens when both children and parents feel more supported, more regulated, and better understood.

You’re ready to better understand your child’s behavior, strengthen connection, and feel more confident in how you respond during challenging moments.

WHAT SESSIONS LOOK LIKE

Parent consultation is a supportive space to slow things down and make sense of what’s happening in your family. We begin by talking through your current concerns, what you’ve been noticing at home, and what feels most challenging right now.

I also share observations from your child’s play therapy sessions. In many ways, I act as a translator for your child’s inner world—helping make sense of what is being communicated through play, emotional themes, and patterns that may be harder to recognize outside of the therapy room.

From there, we connect what you are seeing at home with what is emerging in session, looking at stress responses, triggers, and relational patterns through a developmental and nervous system lens.

Together, we focus on practical, responsive ways to support connection and regulation in everyday moments. This may include new ways of responding during challenging situations, ideas for co-regulation, or small shifts that help increase felt safety and reduce stress in your home.

You don’t need to have it all figured out—this is a space to show up as you are and think through things together. You are welcome here just as you are, and we will work together to build greater clarity, understanding, and support for your family.

  • Yes. I often recommend parent consultation alongside play therapy. While your child engages in their own therapeutic work, parent consultation focuses on helping you understand their needs, make sense of behavior, and respond in ways that support connection and regulation at home. Together, these supports work in tandem to create meaningful change for your family.

  • Parent consultation sessions are typically held about once a month, though this is flexible and based on your family’s needs. This allows time to reflect, try new approaches at home, and notice what’s shifting between sessions. We’ll decide together what rhythm feels most supportive and adjust as your needs change over time.

  • Yes. Parent consultation can be very effective even if I don’t meet directly with your child. In fact, much of the work focuses on helping you understand what may be driving your child’s behavior, strengthen your connection, and build more supportive responses at home. Change often happens through shifts in the parent-child dynamic, so your own work with me can have a meaningful impact on your child’s experience.
